Re: BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review

Aoocci C6 Pro All-in-One Motorcycle Dash Cam with GPS & Anti-Theft - Recd on 21-12-2024 & Installed on 24-12-2024

So the Navigator 6 was getting quite long in the tooth and out-dated, in this era of Android Auto devices. I had heard good things about this Aoocci (strange name) device and it was quite competently priced compared to the 50k they were asking for the Chigee, which was it's nearest rival.

I purchased it directly from their website (no affiliations) - http://aoocci.com/products/c6-pro-m...MK85Eky1cBKRw4 , with some online discount codes (around 30% IIRC), and the total landed cost to me was 14,595/- all inclusive. Very strangely, it was shipped by some warehouse in Delhi by DTDC and I received it in about 10 days time and I had to pay no customs etc. They must have very nice arrangements for India delivery at their backend.

This is how I received the packaging by DTDC -

Have been using it for a few months now and there is no going back. Excellent in all respects except that it sometimes disconnects from Android Auto and then reconnects automatically after a few seconds. But this happens very rarely. I faced this issue even on my Pioneer 9" 6650BT with wireless connection, so not a big deal.

Overall a very satisfactory upgrade.

5th year service report to follow... Cheers.

Re: BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review

5th Year Service - 3rd Service @8402 kms - 13-05-2025

So the bike had been last serviced on 28-10-2021 @4035 kms. It is officially supposed to be serviced every 10,000 kms or every year, as the case may be. BTW I was keeping a keen eye on the oil quality in the meantime. However, due to the low mileage it had been nearly 3.5 years since it's last service and with more than 4000kms already done post last service, it was time not to linger it on any further. The only thing holding me till now was the 75 km 'maddening' ride to the Lutyens BMW, Okhla service station.

So with 8327 kms on the odo, I started from my residence in Meerut for New Delhi, promptly at 6am in the morning, to beat the heat as well as the rush hour traffic -

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-3rd-service-8402kms-13052025_1.jpg

I reached Lutyens at 7.30 am. The dealership/service station does not open till 10am. But the guard was kind enough to get my bike inside and opened the showroom for me to sit comfortably in AC -

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-3rd-service-8402kms-13052025_2.jpg

My bike in their service station corridor, quite a mess -

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-3rd-service-8402kms-13052025_3.jpg

The odo was at 8402kms, so it was exactly 4367kms from the last full service in Oct'2021 -

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-3rd-service-8402kms-13052025_4.jpg

Meanwhile, I checked out the 1300GS while waiting for the showroom staff to appear. Found it quite underwhelming and seems like it had lost it's street credence. However the DNA was all there and I am sure it will gain acceptance slowly. This barebones bike was nearly 26 Lacs on road Delhi now (without accessories) and the GSA, which is to be launched shortly, starts at nearly 28 Lacs, on-road Delhi (without accessories) going all the way upto 30 Lacs for the Option 719, on road. Add 2~3 lacs of accessories, which are a must for any Beemer, and the GS Adventure now starts truly at 30 Lacs, on-road Delhi with accessories. No wonder, I got offered 18 Lacs for my bike, then and there! -

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-3rd-service-8402kms-13052025_5.jpg

Finally the staff arrived and my Bike was the first one on the service lift -

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-3rd-service-8402kms-13052025_6.jpg

The service advisor advised me that there were 4 campaigns for my bike, which were compulsory to proceed further for the service. Most essential of these were "Retrofitting Rear Wheel Swinging Arm Drainage" of the drive shaft or the cardan shaft, as they call it in BMW terminology and "Checking (Testing) of the Cardan Shaft" and 2nd was the "Replacing Throttle Grip" even though mine was working perfectly, besides updating the software etc. My bike was under extended 5 year warranty till 05-08-2025 and all these work were supposed to be done FREE of cost -

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-3rd-service-8402kms-13052025_7.jpg

I gave my approval and the work started. All service parts were procured -

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-3rd-service-8402kms-13052025_8.jpg

I was flabbergasted to see the MRP of the throttle grip that they were changing FOC at Rs. 27,217/=. In all they changed more than Rs. 40,000 worth of parts and labour, absolutely free of cost!!

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-3rd-service-8402kms-13052025_9.jpg

The Oil Filter part# and priced at Rs. 1942/= -

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-3rd-service-8402kms-13052025_10.jpg

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-3rd-service-8402kms-13052025_11.jpg

Hypoid Axle Oil, or gear oil in layman terms, 500 ml at Rs. 3947/- for 500 ml. However the bike uses on 180ml of this oil and I was charged pro-rata only for that volume. Thumbs Up to BMW -

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-3rd-service-8402kms-13052025_12.jpg

The Bash plate was removed and the engine oil was drained and it was time to remove the oil filter -

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-3rd-service-8402kms-13052025_13.jpg

The engine oil drained was not in a much bad state, as confirmed by the technicians, as it had been used for less than half of it's service life -

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-3rd-service-8402kms-13052025_14.jpg

The Air Filter, which I had somehow been lured to replace in the last service, was also quite OK, as the service life is 20K kms and it was just cleaned and re-attached -

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-3rd-service-8402kms-13052025_15.jpg

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-3rd-service-8402kms-13052025_16.jpg

Cannot understand why warranty wasn't denied considering you knowingly missed multiple services in between.

Most likely this is because the replacements were done due to recalls, nothing to do with warranty.

Re: BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review

5th Year Service - 3rd Service @8402 kms - 13-05-2025 - cont...

The drilling starts on this aluminium alloy swing arm (and My Heart STOPS!!) -

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-3rd-service-8402kms-13052025_31.jpg

A perfect hole drilled (Gosh! what a relief!) -

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-3rd-service-8402kms-13052025_32.jpg

Exact 'Made in Germany' Rubber Bung for this hole is supplied. This helps in draining any moisture or water that may enter the swinging arm while river crossings (which I never did and will probably never do!), and thus preventing any corrosion of the cardan shaft (drive shaft) which CAN lead to catastrophic failure (and law suits...Lolz) -

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-3rd-service-8402kms-13052025_33.jpg

Nicely fitted in position with super glue. BTW, the newer bikes come with this already done from the factory -

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-3rd-service-8402kms-13052025_34.jpg

Time for Testing of the Cardan Shaft. This is where they drop a bombshell on me! That, if the bike fails this test, it cannot be let outside the service station, till a new cardan shaft is replaced (free of cost, of course). But they did not have a new shaft in stock and that could potentially mean that my bike was stranded at their workshop for days till a new shaft is procured!!

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-3rd-service-8402kms-13052025_35.jpg

Another contraption was added after removing the rear wheel -

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-3rd-service-8402kms-13052025_36.jpg

Again, Made in Germany, by Bosch -

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-3rd-service-8402kms-13052025_37.jpg

And the bike was plugged into the computer and the test starts, this time with a Makita drill contraption (And my Heart Stops, finger's crossed!). Notice the ABS sensor was used to test any deviations -

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-3rd-service-8402kms-13052025_38.jpg

Finally got a GREEN TICK on the screen, stating that the bike had passed the cardan shaft test and my shaft was A-OK -

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-3rd-service-8402kms-13052025_39.jpg

Next all the brakes were checked. And my Rear Brake Pads were found to be kaput! -

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-3rd-service-8402kms-13052025_40.jpg

Absolutely Kaput, to be more clear. Shocker - the new OEM one's were around 11K!! -

So, I put my foot down. And ordered these Made in Italy one's from Pathpavers, down the road, which he supplied within 10 minutes and the service guys agreed to change it for me, without blowing a tantrum. This is the make and part#, sintered one's at that -

Made in Italy and just 3300/- bucks at that with warranty. The technicians approved for their quality, as many other owner's too had been using these for sometime -

New Rear Brake Pads in place -

Notice the full friction material on these one's, which had 'nearly' completely weared off, in my old OEM ones in just 8K kms and I am not a aggressive braker. The technicians assured me that these will last more than the oem ones -

Time for a full Brake Fluid Replacement, which needs to be done every 2 years. A proper drain bottle was used so as to avoid introducing any bubbles in the system, which may cause mushy brakes -

All Brake Fluid was replaced and topped up with the fresh. Notice the colour of the new oil in the front brake fluid reservoir -

I can't over state how happy I am with this bike and it's ownership and service experience. Every time I started feeling old (I am 56 now) and start thinking that this bike is too big for me now, one ride on it changes everything. You get the drift...

Cheers...

You may be right... But then you might be wrong!! Lolz

But seriously, you are right, it was their legal responsibility to do these jobs on each and every bike that needs these campaigns (or recalls, as you call them).

But BMW basically does not blow many tantrums, IF, you have maintained the bike right, and something has not gone horribly wrong with the bike, irrespective of the conditions you mention. My bike had many accessories, extra lights, HEX Ezcan etc. etc. etc. attached to it, No Tantrums still!

And hats off to BMW for changing 40K worth of parts and labour pro-actively, free of cost!

Cheers...
